Can Diet Really Help With Rheumatoid Arthritis

I guess I have reiterated over and over how diet is such a power player in your health. The other day I was watching this cooking showed titled, "Christina Cooks." This lady is a hard-core veggan. Her show is centered on using natural non-animal products and each show targets a certain health issue. The other day, she focused on arthritis and how some foods can help ease the pain or even fight arthritis. So the question is, can foods actually fight against this disease that, according to wrongdiagnosis.com, affects about 2.5 million Americans?

I decided to do some research and found a very helpful article on webmd.com. This article states that while there is no scientifically substantial arthritis diet, research do suggest that some foods may lessen or worsen the effects of arthritis. Here's the breakdown of the affects of certain foods:

Saturated Fats- Studies do show that saturated fats do increase inflamation in the body. Saturated fats are prevalent among animal products such as bacon, steak, butter, cream...etc.

Omega 6 Fatty Acid- Foods high in acid are believed to contribute to inflammation in the body. Not only is omega-6 fatty acid shown to increased inflammation, it is also believed to promoted certain illnesses such as cardiovascular disease and certain cancers.

Omega 3 Fatty Acid- Increasing more omega 3 fatty acid (salmon) and decreasing omega 6- fatty acid can supress inflammation, and lower your risk of these illnesses.

Mediterranean Diet- Studies have shown that people in the Mediterranean, Greece, and Italy have less incidents of rheumatoid arthritis. This may be contributed to their diet which consists of foods high in vitamin C, fruits, and vegetables.

So while there is no strict diet with specific guidelines to follow to completely eliminate rheumatoid arthritis, there are certain foods that you can increase and decrease to help control rheumatoid arthritis for yourself. I really like the fresh perpective you did on the issue. Really was not expecting that when I started off studying. Your concepts were easy to understand that I wondered why I never looked at it before. Glad to know that there's an individual out there that definitely understands what he's discussing. Great job.
